Yoshi est un musicien et artiste psyché qui fait dans l'art numérique et la vidéo digitale depuis les années 90. Autant dire qu'à lui, le retour des 90's et la révolution des Internets, on le lui fait pas. Si vous aimez le bruit visuel et auditif, les couleurs fluos et le grand n'importe quoi en plein concert de The Jesus Lizard, vous devriez être ravis. En attendant de voir son travail exposé en France, on se contentera de son interview.
Qui es-tu Yoshi Sodeoka ?
Salut. Je suis artiste et musicien, je viens de Yokohama au Japon mais je vis à New York depuis 1989. Les gens qui connaissent déjà mon travail ont du voir mes vidéos, sérigraphies et musiques psychédéliques.
Tout le monde parle d’une révolution artistique, la fin de l’art tel qu’on le connaît…
Je trouve que cette idée est cool même s’il y a probablement un peu trop de bruit autour de ça. Les gens cherchent des sujets de conversation, il n’y a rien de mal à ça. Mais j’essaie de ne pas trop m’occuper des tendances. Je veux juste me concentrer sur mon art et le rendre intéressant.
Comment la culture pop japonaise a-t-elle influencée ton art « GIF psychedelica »?
Il n’y avait pas du tout d’inspirations spécifiques quand je faisais
ces Gifs. Mais je suis sûre qu’il y a des influences de la culture pop
japonaise dans tout ce que je fais.
Couleurs vives et bruit = chaos ou beauté?
Les deux.
C’est quoi la suite pour toi?
En février, je ferai un petit show en solo à la Galerie Hex Pixel à
Kansas City. Puis au printemps je participerai au festival ROJO/NOVA au
Brésil, où je mettrai en place des installations et des projections. Et
depuis un moment maintenant, je travaille sur mon projet de film
psychédélique, « Sibyl ». Je vais essayer de le finir cette année ! Oh
et mon nouvel album/DVD audiovisuel devrait sortir au printemps.

I think it’s all cool although I think there’s definitely a little too much hype about it. People want stuff to talk about, and there’s nothing wrong about that. But I try not to worry about trends too much. I just want to focus on making interesting art.
